The Bad Poet
Writer, poet, playwright, journalist, trooper, patriot. Gabriele D’Annunzio has been a towering observer and narrator of the Italian nation, and predicted its future with such foresight and critical thinking which brought him the title of Vate – the sacred poet, the prophet. Now D’Annunzio is living his last years as a recluse in his mansion, the Vittoriale, fighting against the oppression, determined not to give up his freedom, and never to join the Fascist Party. Although D’Annunzio accepts his honors and appointments, Mussolini fears him, and knows he needs to keep him under control. That’s why he sends Giovanni Comini, the youngest Federal in Italy, to watch the Evil Poet.
